Afternoon at Granville Island

Brad took the afternoon off and we enjoyed a family day at Granville Island. The weather was beautiful and Carlon was very happy to be out of the house. Brad had fish and chips and shared some of his fish (salmon) with Carlon. No chips yet, I'm hoping to keep that from happening for as long as possible.

Blueberry pancakes

As Carlon has grown so have his menu options. We have a blueberry bush in our backyard so I thought he might enjoy some pancakes and boy was I right! No syrup yet but, that didn't matter, he never knew the difference and he was quite happy with himself.

Heat Wave

For a couple weeks the lower mainland was in the throws of one of the worst heat waves ever recorded. Several temperature records were broken and there was not a fan or AC unit to be found. Carlon and I did our best to keep cool and not go insane. Several days of 34 degrees can put a person on the edge of loopy. I finally had had enough of feeling not only my own stickyness but Carlon's as well, so I purchased a little sprinkle pool. Carlon had used the same one at Rayna's party so it was a sure thing, and worked wonderfully to cool him down. It was, however, too small for me to get into so I just sat in the shade and kept an eye on him.

Birthday Party

We all gathered to celebrate Rayna's 12th birthday. Hamburgers, corn on the cob and ice cream was on the menu and the heat wave gave it another level to remember.

Praire Summer... Lake Louise

We decided to stop at Lake Louise on our way home. For some reason I seem to recall the mountain in the back was bigger when I was a kid. Carlon was unaware of the significance of it all, he was just happy to be out of the car seat.

Prairie Summer... on our way home... Peter's Drive-In

We drove through Calgary on our way home and stopped at Peter's Drive-In. They're famous for their shakes, so thick it hurts my jaw to suck on the straw and over 4500 possible flavour combos. They have burgers, fries and onion rings, but really it's all about the shakes. I had chocolate, Brad had lime... poor Carlon had to watch.

Prairie Summer... Dinner with the AB Reids

When we got back to Edmonton from Winnipeg we had dinner with the family. Cousins, aunts uncles, grandparents, brothers, sisters. And Carlon was able to enjoy his first splash pool.
